GISELA ROGOWITZ - ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I work best being surrounded by untouched wilderness. Here I feel the power of nature inspire me which provides the primary influence for my acrylics paintings.

Plants and animals are a recurring theme in my work. These express the atmosphere, sublime qualities, and spiritual essence of my surroundings. I like to use them in allegories and metaphors to communicate abstract ideas or feelings.

I often substitute the painted backgrounds with written lyrics. It is up to the viewer to imagine his or her own imagery.

My paintings start with the visualization of an idea. The work goes through many metamorphoses before it is completed. It is the work of tearing down and rebuilding, of composing and recomposing, and of sifting until at last the painting is created.
